Our day was very nice. We went to the Rita meeting and I am attempting to speak in Marshallese. Vince just hovers over me when I try because he doesn't want to. So he listens to my mistakes that are corrected by the loving sisters. If it works for him that is okay. Today Vin is real excited because this afternoon (Monday) he gets to watch Sunday night football. The missionary brother, Martin, is a football fan and is on a fantasy league, so his day off is Monday and he comes here to the hotel to watch the game and do e-mails. This place is free in the restaurant and the bar and the lobby.
We are probably going to stay at the hotel for a month in our room. Just have to use the lobby as our livingroom at times like we are doing now. We are still in our suitcases but I think I will rearrange our room to be livable. Can have a hot plate, so the pot and pan that I packed will do just fine. Two of our boxes are at the missionary home. May have to go in and get some bowls, plates, and silverware. It will work. . . We have found a place by the ocean but the guy is still working on it. There is a possiblility that we could be washed by the ocean and flooded out but we may take our chances. There is a beautiful place out by Laura. A man that works at the hardware store owns it and is fixing it up for his children. We have asked him if we fix his yard maybe we could rent it for less. That house is on the lagoon side out in the open. I guess wherever Jehovah wants us to be we will go.
As for the other needgreaters. There is quite a lot of diversity. There have been a lot that have come and already gone. In the Laura congregation we have met two. One is a young couple from California and the other is a spanish couple from Arizona. The Califfornia couple, (Theron and Allie) are just in there 20's. Julio and his wife are our age. In the Rita congregation we have met two as well. They both have been here two months. Gayle and Nancy are from Michigan and are 60 years old. He gave a talk yestarday in Laura (in English). They are quite nice. The other couple, Andy and Sonja are from California and are in their 70's and are hard workers as well. I guess the congregation in California thought they were crazy to go. Sonja said that she could die here just as well as die there! All have different personalities.
Some of the locals are really nice too. One gal, Bergan (sort of like that) is a school teacher as well as her husband. There son just left for Bethel in Hawaii. She has mentioned that the schools really need teachers. She is originally from Chuuk.
Last night while I was trying to use the internet. (very slow because so many people were on it) A gal from the plane came up to us. She is from New Hampshire. She had a job lined up in the US but because of the economy her position was cut. In order to stay on unemployment, she had to apply to at least four places, one was Marshall Islands University thinking that they would not be interested. Well guess what? She starts today! She told us that if Vin does teach we would get our rent for free plus a salary. We may check into it. The territory does get covered every six weeks in Rita and really all they need is elders. Of course I plan to go out. You never have not at homes because someone is always home! And there are a lot of studies to be had. I will prabably start going out this week.
Lilee if you can copy this and share this with the friends, I would really appreciate it. Oh our address is P. O. Box 3979, Majuro, MH 96960. As soon as I get some stationery, I will write to the friends. All our love to all of you. E-mails are fine as well since we are at the hotel for a month. As Matt 19;29 reassures us that even though we miss you all, Jehovah will fill that void.
Bar yokweh!
Lynn and Vin
